06.11.10 Rio De Janeiro (in the rain)

Woke up to light rain so decided to have an easy day on foot.  We walked through the Centro district passing a crazy concrete modern 'teepee' shaped church (Nova Catedral Metropolitana) just at 'kicking out' time.

Had a long walk through the Parque Do Flamengo and slowly got wetter and wetter.  Tried some street food - a pastel carne (a pasty filled with spiced mince) and some other salgados (street snacks).

Given the intensity of the rain, we decided that the only viable option was to stop at a bar and have a (few) beers.  After some Caipirinha's in the hostel bar we headed up to Bar de Minerio for some traditional Feijoada (pork and black bean stew served with kale, rice and pork scratchings).  It was really nice - even when we read in the book a few days later that they use all sorts of 'pork' in the stew, ear, trotters and other unmentionables.

Started as we meant to go on and after dinner headed off for more beers in Lapa returning home in a taxi a little worse for wear....
